We are conservation professionals dedicated to the protection and restoration of Earth's diversity and life-support systems.
Action, empowerment, collaboration, and integrity are among our core values. We believe that knowledge-driven solutions, and authentic and transparent partnerships within and among our communities/orgs/human-systems are what underpin coexistence and sustainability. Our team's experience spans protected area management, human-wildlife coexistence, endangered species & ecosystem restoration, and sustainable human-systems. In 2021, we launched AZUL to pursue a range of new, impactful conservation projects with an inspiring and diverse team of partners and allies sharing our commitment to authentic, inclusive and socially just initiatives. AZUL is registered in Mozambique. Our core team forged our working partnership in the context of post-war Gorongosa National Park, Mozambique. Beginning in 2012 - at a time when the park (and Mozambique) was facing a crisis in poaching - we joined forces and spent the next decade strategically building teams of Mozambican rangers and coexistence and wildlife specialists to secure a critical biodiversity area. Leading the park's 350-person-strong Conservation Department, we implemented coexistence, law enforcement, wildlife management and technology solutions reaching across 12,000 square-kilometers. We helped usher in the protection and recovery of indigenous lions & elephants, painted wolves, pangolin and a rich array of wildlife populations and forest ecosystems. Our work was featured by the New York Times, National Geographic, PBS Nova, PBS International, WIRED Magazine, Seeker, Howard Hughes Medical Institute's Tangled Bank Studios, and the IUCN. |
